As with anything you buy, you want to get the most from spending your hard-earned money. You want your purchase to last as long as possible and remain consistently effective throughout the product’s life.
When it comes to Delta 8 THC products, the way you store that product has a lot to do with how long it remains effective. We at The Hemp Doctor, America’s Premier Hemp & CBD Dispensary, want to not only provide you with the best hemp products on the market today, but we also want you to be able to get the most “bang for your buck” as well. With that in mind, here is some guidance for storing your Delta 8 THC products to do just that.
Oral Delta 8 THC Products
Tinctures
Tinctures like our Delta 8 THC Tinctures combine Delta 8 with a carrier oil like MCT oil. By combining the cannabinoid with a carrier oil, the tinctures can last for years if they are unopened. However, you need to make sure to store your tinctures away from heat and light.
Sunlight has a direct effect on the cannabinoids within your tincture and will diminish their effectiveness. So before and after you open the tincture bottle, be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight. The same thing goes for heat. Extreme heat will not only diminish the effectiveness of the Delta 8 THC inside, but it will also break down the carrier oil within the bottle. Therefore, you want to keep your tinctures in a cool, dry place away from any light source.
Some users have had good results in keeping their tinctures in the refrigerator. We agree that this is a great idea. Just understand that your oil will be slightly thicker when you pull the bottle out to use it. If for some reason you need to keep your tincture available for years, you can freeze the tincture. However, you may find some degradation inconsistency once it is thawed.
Once you open your bottle of tincture, another element that will affect the cannabinoids within the oil is air. Therefore, make sure that you screw the cap of the bottle on tightly after every use.
Softgels
Softgels are also affected by heat and light. Just like with tinctures, sunlight can break down the Delta 8 THC within the softgel. Heat is especially harmful to softgels. Not only will heat break down the cannabinoids inside the softgel, but excessive heat may also melt the gel casing on the capsule itself, causing it to stick to other capsules or deteriorate to the point of bursting. Be sure to keep your softgels in a cool, dark place, and make sure to keep the top to their container closed tight.
Edibles
Edibles like our Delta 8 THC Cosmic Rings have a gummy texture. This texture is produced by using gelatin as an ingredient to give it that wonderful consistency. However, just like with anything gelatin, excessive heat will cause the product to melt. To be sure, leaving your bottle of gummies in a hot car will likely result in one large, single gummy. Make sure you keep your edibles in a cool place to not only protect against melting but to protect the quality of the Delta 8 THC that is contained within each delicious bite.
Daylight and air can also affect the quality of your gummy, as they cannot only affect the consistency of the treat, they can also degrade the Delta 8 THC as well. Be sure to keep your gummies in a dark place with the container lid tightly sealed. Many people opt to keep their gummies in a refrigerator to keep them cool and dark. Our Delta 8 THC Bombs are also affected by light, heat, and moisture as the sugar coating on our bombs may melt when in contact with too much heat or moisture.
One unique storage issue when it comes to Delta 8 THC edibles is the fact that they are brightly colored and tasty. In other words, they look and taste a lot like candy. This can be an issue if you have children in your household. Because of this, it is recommended that you keep your Delta 8 THC edibles in a cool, dark, and dry environment as well as either in a locked container or cabinet – anywhere out of reach of little hands.
Inhalants
Vape
Vape cartridges like our Delta 8 THC Hemp Derived Cartridge degrade very little over time. However, you still want to store them in a dark and cool place, as heat and sunlight can still affect the potency of the cannabinoids in the vaping solution. Also, extreme heat has been known to destabilize a vape battery and sometimes cause them to explode. So be sure not to leave your vape pen in the glove compartment of a hot car.
Preroll
Prerolls consist of our phytocannabinoid-rich hemp flower wrapped in smokable paper. This combination makes it necessary to keep your prerolls away from moisture. Too much moisture will cause the flower to mold. It is also recommended that you not keep your prerolls in the refrigerator, as this may also cause your prerolls to become moist. It is also never recommended to keep your prerolls in the freezer because the freezing process will greatly harm the flower in the preroll.
Heat is another factor that may damage the flower in your preroll. Not only will storing your preroll in excessive heat diminish the effectiveness of the preroll, but too much heat can also cause the flower to mold. Hemp flower tends to enjoy temperatures somewhere between 77 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
No matter where you keep your prerolls, the best container to store them in is something made of glass. Mason jars are ideal because they are tightly sealed, and some retailers have special glass containers that pull the air out of sealed jars. Glass actually cures the flower contained in your preroll while it protects the flower against moisture.
Shatter
If you are not going to use your Delta 8 THC shatter within the next week, it is recommended that you first wrap it in a non-stick paper (your shatter usually comes with this, but wax paper will do), then place it in a ziplock bag and place that bag into a glass container. Place this container in a cool, dark, dry place. This will not only protect the potency of your shatter, but it will also protect it against hair and other environmental elements that may stick to it.
