Delta 8 gummies and edibles

Want an Edible

Gummies with a Gentler Curve

Gummies are the easiest entry point into delta 8, and the most forgiving. Precise milligram amounts per piece mean you always know what you took, and the milder profile gives you more room to find your level without overshooting. Onset runs 30 to 90 minutes and the effects stretch longer than vaping. Good for winding down an evening or keeping things low key on a weekend.

Want to Vape

Fast Onset, Easy to Pace

Vapes are the quickest way to feel delta 8 working, with effects arriving within minutes. That fast feedback makes them the easiest format to pace. Take a draw, see where you land, and decide from there. We carry cartridges and disposables in multiple strain profiles, so you can pick a flavor and feel instead of settling for generic.

Delta 8 softgel capsules

Want Softgels

Precise Dose, No Flavor

Softgels give you the same milligram precision as a gummy, minus the taste and the sugar. Swallow it like any other supplement and go about your day. Onset runs 30 to 90 minutes, same as any ingested format, with effects that last just as long. Good for folding delta 8 into a daily routine without thinking about it.

Delta 8 tincture bottle and dropper

Want a Tincture

Fastest Ingested Option, Fully Adjustable

Tinctures absorb under the tongue, so they work faster than anything else you swallow, typically 15 to 45 minutes. The dropper also gives you the most control of any format here: measure out exactly the amount you want instead of a fixed milligram count. Add it to food or a drink instead for a slower, edible-like effect. Good for dialing in an exact dose or still figuring out what that dose should be.

Delta 8’s staying power shows up in our own numbers too. According to the 2026 Hemp Doctor Cannabinoid Report, 72 percent of more than 10,000 hemp consumers surveyed had tried Delta 8, making it the second most tried cannabinoid in the entire survey, behind only Delta 9.

Future Past

Delta-8 is not a newly discovered compound. It was first partially synthesized in 1941 by Roger Adams at the University of Illinois. However, it wasn’t until the introduction of the 2018 Farm Bill that people began to rediscover the compound, leading to its rise in popularity by 2021.

What is Delta 8?

Lab technician holding a hemp bud with tweezers beside beakers of extract

Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol is an alternate form of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), naturally existing in the cannabis plant. Found in hemp and cannabis in trace amounts, usually well under 1% of the plant. The compound’s double bond can be found on the 8th carbon at the molecular level, hence the name Delta 8. It is an isomer of delta 9 THC, meaning the two molecules contain the same atoms arranged slightly differently. That small structural difference, the position of one double bond, makes Delta 8 bind with the central nervous system’s cannabinoid G-protein coupled receptor CB1. This CB1 receptor activation supports a balanced and relaxing effect, a convenience many Delta 8 users find helpful in promoting moments of relaxation and calm. People who use both commonly describe delta 8 as clearer and easier to function on, with less of the racing intensity delta 9 can bring at higher amounts.

Because the plant produces so little of it naturally, commercial delta 8 is made by converting hemp derived CBD through a process called isomerization. The starting material is federally compliant hemp, which is what places delta 8 under the 2018 Farm Bill. That conversion step is also exactly why lab testing matters more for delta 8 than almost any other cannabinoid. A properly made product is clean and consistent. A poorly made one can carry leftover solvents and reaction byproducts. At The Hemp Doctor, every batch is tested by an independent third party lab for potency, residual solvents, and contaminants.

When browsing for Delta 8 for sale, choose your vendors carefully, as it’s still a largely unregulated compound. At The Hemp Doctor, we make it a point to publish our Delta 8 products’ Certificate of Analysis so you’re assured what you’re about to take is clean and safe.

Does Delta-8 Get You as High as Delta 9?

Delta 8 can get you high, though not as intensely or quickly as Delta 9. The reason comes down to receptor binding: both cannabinoids act on the same CB1 receptor, but Delta 8 binds to it less strongly than Delta 9 does. Weaker binding means a weaker signal, which is why the high lands softer even though the underlying mechanism is otherwise identical. Delta 8 vapes can be just as strong, almost comparable to the Delta 9 high, but if you want a lasting mellow high from Delta 8, choose gummies.

No conclusive claim is made about the exact high or feeling induced by Delta 8. Most of what’s documented is derived from word of mouth or real experience written by actual users in reviews, groups, and social media platforms.

What the data says

We can add our own data to that word of mouth. When we asked 10,000+ of our customers to rank cannabinoids from mellowest to most intense based on personal experience, 61 percent of those who ranked both placed Delta 8 below Delta 9 on the intensity scale.

What users say

Overall, users say the same thing about the Delta 8’s high. They describe it as clear-headed, buzzy, and euphoric. People went on to report that they can go about their day and not have difficulty concentrating with Delta 8.

How Long Does Delta 8 Take To Kick In?

Delta 8, on average, kicks in about 15 to 90 minutes after the last use, though it varies by format.

Delta 8 vapes have the fastest onset, around 15 minutes. Tinctures land in the middle, usually 15 to 45 minutes, since they absorb under the tongue instead of being swallowed. Softgels take a bit longer, typically around 30 minutes, since the capsule still has to break down first. Gummies are the slowest to kick in, up to 90 minutes, but they also last the longest of any Delta 8 format.

You also have to consider different factors affecting onset, including metabolism rate, body weight, tolerance, potency, and the amount consumed.

What’s the Right Delta 8 Amount for Me?

There are multiple ways to determine what’s right for you. You can base it on your weight, tolerance, and type of consumption.

One of the easiest and fastest way to land on the right amount is to base it on experience level or individual tolerance.

Beginners tend to have the lowest tolerance or the highest sensitivity since no Delta 8 compound has accumulated in their system yet. So they may need only the smallest amount to notice its effects.

As the body becomes more familiar with the compound through repeated use, some experienced consumers may require a higher amount to reach their preferred experience.

The amounts below are general starting points per experience and tolerance level. They are not recommended serving amounts. Always start with the lowest available serving and increase gradually only after allowing enough time to assess the effects.

Beginners (Lowest Tolerance)

5-10 mg per session

Intermediate Users (Medium Tolerance)

10-30 mg per session

Experienced Users (Highest Tolerance)

30-50 mg+ per session

These amounts are general reference points only and should not be treated as equivalent across every product format. The number of servings needed to reach them, how quickly the effects begin, and how long you should wait before considering another serving all vary depending on the product.

Delta 8 Gummies (Starting Amount: 10mg or less)

Since our gummies run from 30mg up to 420mg of total cannabinoid per piece, that means starting with a third of a gummy or less, even at our mildest strength, not just a half.

Wait the full onset window of up to 90 minutes before deciding whether to take more. Someone with delta 9 experience may be comfortable starting with a whole 30mg or 60mg piece, but the 420mg option is a different tier entirely and best saved for well past the starting-amount stage.

Delta 8 Softgels (Starting Amount: 25mg, one softgel)

Our D8 softgels come premeasured at 25mg each, so there’s no splitting or measuring involved.

One softgel is the standard starting point for first-time users. Effects take about 30 minutes to arrive, noticeably faster than a gummy, and it’s worth waiting a full 90 minutes before deciding you need another.

From the team

And if a rough edible experience years ago scared you off the format, Clay Kramm, our Strains Expert, has a counterpoint: “This is not the old-school brownie that was probably 100 milligrams and never tested. These are lab-tested and precise. Start with a low amount, and if you need more, you can always have more.”

— Clay Kramm, Strains Expert, The Hemp Doctor

Delta 8 Vapes (Starting Amount: One short draw)

One short draw is a typical starting point, regardless of device size. Our total cannabinoid content ranges from 1,000mg to 6,500mg per device, so the draw is what to calibrate by, not the total.

Onset arrives within minutes, so you can gauge where you are before going back for more.

Delta 8 Tinctures (Starting Amount: A fraction of a dropper)

Tinctures absorb under the tongue and work faster than edibles, usually within 15 to 45 minutes. A fraction of a full dropper is a common starting amount.

We carry 500mg and 1,000mg bottles; the milligram strength per dropper depends on which one you pick, so check the label on the specific bottle in front of you.

Fun Fact

When we asked our hemp consumers how they found the right product and dose, 75 percent said trial and error, and barely 2 percent credited a store or budtender. This section aims to shorten that process.

How We Make Our Delta 8 Products

Hemp plant catching the evening sun in an outdoor field

Step 01

Sourcing

Our proprietary strain of phytocannabinoid-rich hemp is where every Delta 8 product begins. It’s grown right here in Colorado and North Carolina’s nutrient-rich soil under the standards the 2018 Farm Bill sets.

Consistency is the whole point of how our farmers grow it: 100% organic, backed by a high-tech process built to hit the same mark batch after batch. And that consistency gets checked before the plant material ever moves further down the line, every batch tested, every batch traceable back to the farm it came from.

Step 02

Conversion and Refinement

Delta 8 occurs naturally in hemp, but only in trace amounts, typically less than 1%, even in mature plants. Extracting it directly at any real scale isn’t practical, so it’s produced by converting hemp-derived CBD through isomerization instead, a controlled process that rearranges the CBD molecule into Delta 8 THC.

That starts with pulling CBD from our own hemp using our proprietary, solvent-free supercritical CO2 extraction, the same clean process behind everything else we make.

Conversion itself is a separate step: it’s a genuine chemical reaction that requires a catalyst to restructure the molecule into delta 8. The Delta 8 distillate is then formulated into gummies, vape cartridges, tinctures, and softgels at specific milligram amounts.

Because conversion is where things most often go wrong, it’s also where we spend the most effort on refinement and verification.

Step 03

Lab Testing

Our Delta 8 products go through our in-house testing and are verified by an accredited, independent third-party lab using HPLC methods before being listed for sale.

For delta 8, testing goes beyond potency. Labs confirm the full cannabinoid profile and screen for any residuals, pesticides, heavy metals, and microbial contamination, so nothing from that step makes it into the final product.

The COAs are published right on the product page so you can verify the numbers before you buy. All current results are on our Lab Results page, and here’s the article “How to Read a COA for CBD & Delta 8 THC Products” if you need help figuring out how to read a COA document.

How is Delta 8 THC Different From Other Cannabinoids? Delta 9, THCA, and CBD

Delta 8, Delta 9, THCA, and CBD are four of the most talked-about compounds in hemp, though they’re not all the same kind of thing. Delta 8 and Delta 9 are both forms of THC. THCA is the acidic precursor that becomes THC once heated. CBD isn’t part of that family at all, a completely different cannabinoid that never produces a high. Here’s how they rank from most intoxicating to least.

CANNABINOIDCOMPARING EFFECTS
Delta 9Strong psychoactive effects, the classic cannabis high most people associate with THC.
THCANon-intoxicating in its raw form, but once heated, it converts directly into Delta 9, delivering effects just as strong.
Delta 8Milder than Delta 9, with effects often described as relaxing and clear-headed.
CBDNon-intoxicating in any form. No amount of heat or preparation changes that.

Another key difference between these compounds is their origin. Delta 9, THCA, and CBD all occur naturally and abundantly in hemp, extracted directly from the plant. Delta 8 is the outlier: it exists in only trace amounts naturally, so it’s produced by converting hemp-derived CBD through a chemical process instead, the same CBD sitting right above it in this table.

Other differences include typical use, drug test risk, and legality, summarized here:

Is Delta 8 THC Legal?

Last updated July 2026. Consult your local laws before purchasing. This content is informational and not legal advice.

The 2018 Farm Bill automatically removes Delta 8 from the federal list of controlled substances as long as it’s hemp-derived and contains less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. Under that standard, companies have been free to manufacture, distribute, and sell Delta 8 products across the US.

That standard is changing. A federal law passed in November 2025 redefines hemp starting November 12, 2026, replacing the delta-9-only threshold with a total THC standard and adding a cap of 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container on any finished product. Delta 8 runs straight into that cap: a typical pack of Delta 8 gummies or a standard tincture carries far more total THC than 0.4mg.

There’s also a second Delta-8-specific question in play: the new law excludes cannabinoids chemically converted outside the plant, and most commercial Delta-8 is made exactly that way, through isomerization from CBD. Whether that provision technically applies to Delta 8, which also occurs naturally in trace amounts, is still genuinely disputed among legal analysts. Either way, the per-container cap alone is enough to exclude nearly all Delta 8 products as currently formulated, regardless of how that second question resolves.

The rule is being challenged. Multiple bills would delay it, repeal it outright, or replace it with a different regulatory framework, but as of today, none of them have passed, and the November deadline stands unless that changes.

As of now, most states currently allow Delta 8 in some form, though a meaningful number attach real restrictions, sometimes to specific formats rather than the compound as a whole, and a minority prohibit it outright. That mix shifts often enough that any specific count we printed here would likely be wrong within months.

Our State Legality guide is a good reference point for checking whether Delta 8 is currently allowed where you live, broken down state by state and updated as laws change.

How Long Does Delta 8 Stay in Your System?

Delta 8’s effects can last from minutes to hours, depending on how it is consumed. What you may not realize is that as the effects fade, Delta 8 byproducts are stored in your body’s fat cells with ongoing use. Traces of it can be found in your hair, urine, and even nails. THC-COOH, a byproduct of metabolized Delta 8, is a compound drug tests detect to indicate a positive result for marijuana.

Here are the different windows of detection per drug test sample:

Urine

A week and up to 30 days.

Blood

Up to 48 hours.

Saliva

24 hours and up to 48 hours.

Hair

Up to 90 days.

The following metabolism variables affect how long Delta 8 metabolites or byproducts stay in your system:

  • Frequency of use
  • Metabolic rate
  • Body fat percentage
  • Health condition and history
  • Age
  • Body Mass Index
  • Method of consumption

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have some burning questions before deciding to buy Delta 8 online? We’ve got the answers so you can light up with peace of mind.

Can you buy Delta 8 online?

Yes. Hemp-derived Delta 8 that stays under 0.3% Delta 9 THC by dry weight is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, so it can be shipped within the US wherever state law allows it. Your address is checked automatically at our checkout, and if your state is on the restricted list, the order simply won’t go through. (If you’ve ordered from us before without a hitch, your state currently allows it.)

Is Delta-8 stronger than Delta-9?

No. The two share the same atoms, but Delta 8 binds to the CB1 receptor less strongly, so the high lands softer and clearer. Most people put it at roughly half to two-thirds the strength of Delta 9, and 61 percent of our surveyed customers who had tried both ranked Delta 8 as the milder one. Vapes close that gap the most, while gummies keep things the mellowest.

Is Delta-8 or Delta 10 stronger?

Delta 8, for most people. Delta 10 is usually described as lighter and more energizing, while Delta 8 leans relaxed and calm, and both sit well below Delta 9 on intensity. Individual experiences vary, so treat either one the same way: start with a low amount and wait out the full onset window before adding more.

Does Delta 8 share the same effects as CBD?

No. CBD is non-intoxicating in any form, so it won’t get you high no matter how much you take or how it’s prepared. Delta 8 is a form of THC and does produce a mild high. The two can be taken together, and plenty of customers do pair them, which we cover in our guide on mixing CBD and Delta 8.

Is Delta 8 naturally found in cannabis plants?

Yes, but only in trace amounts, usually well under 1% of the plant. There’s too little to extract directly at any real scale, so commercial Delta 8 is made by converting hemp-derived CBD through isomerization. It’s the same molecule the plant makes, just reached by a different route, which is exactly why a batch-specific COA matters so much here.

Is Delta-8 good for beginners?

Yes, as long as you start low. Its softer, clearer high makes it one of the friendlier THC options for a first-timer, and our lab-tested products are measured to the milligram, so you always know what you took. Begin in the 5 to 10mg range (a third of our mildest gummy or less, or a fraction of a dropper), then wait the full onset window before deciding on more.

Can drug tests detect Delta 8?

Yes. Your body breaks Delta 8 down into THC-COOH, the same metabolite standard drug tests screen for, so it can trigger a positive result for marijuana. Detection windows run from about 48 hours in blood or saliva to up to 30 days in urine and 90 days in hair, depending on how often you use it. If a test is on the calendar, skip Delta 8.

Is Delta 8 safe?

It comes down to how the specific product was made and tested. Delta 8 isn’t FDA-approved and is less studied than Delta 9 or CBD, and because it’s made by converting CBD, a careless conversion can leave solvents and reaction byproducts behind. A batch-specific, third-party COA confirms clean conversion and accurate potency, which is why every Hemp Doctor batch ships with one. Keep it to adults 21 and over, start low, don’t drive after taking it, store it away from kids and pets, and check with your doctor first if you take prescription medications.
