Celebrating NYE 2022

Everyone has their way of celebrating holidays. Some like to go out partying, some spend holidays with family while enjoying special meals, others head outdoors for adventure, movie-lovers rewatch their favorite Christmas films, and some want to try something they have never done before. New Year’s Eve is all about change, so many people are looking for new products to try for a fun-filled NYE celebration, including different cannabis strains.

Different strains produce varying experiences – they differ in flavor, aroma, and effects. Regardless of how you plan to spend your NYE, with so many options you can choose from, there is always a perfect match to help you enjoy the celebration. Here are some of the best cannabis strains you can try to lighten up your night.

Ghost Train Haze (Sativa)

Ghost Train Haze is the perfect selection when searching for a strain to enrich your celebration with uplifted mood and increased energy. As a Sativa strain, it offers an uplifting euphoric experience and energy boost that’ll help transform your NYE into an unforgettable celebration. Its rich flavor combines sweet and earthy taste with a sour citrus punch. Fortunately, Ghost Train Haze is one of the most potent cannabis strains with 27% THC, so although delicious, don’t let the taste fool you, and be careful not to go overboard.

Girl Scout Cookies (Hybrid)

Girl Scout Cookies is a Hybrid marijuana strain with parent strains being OG Kush and Durban Poison. It’s an Indica-dominant strain that commonly produces euphoric effects in the beginning, followed by a head-to-toe relaxation. It’s an excellent choice if you don’t plan to stay up all night or spend the entire celebration out partying. It’s a potent cannabis strain with 19% THC content, so be careful not to consume too much if you aren’t an avid cannabis user.

Maui Wowie (Sativa)

Are you ready to wow your taste buds on New Year’s Eve? Then try Maui Wowie. Its delicious tropical flavor will make you feel like you’re in Hawaii. It provides uplifting effects and is an excellent pick if you plan on staying up too late like millions of others on NYE. It’s also a great choice if you plan to celebrate the New Year outdoors due to its energy-boosting properties. Maui Wowie features up to 19% THC.

Bubba Kush (Indica)

Holidays can make you tense – that’s what happens to 38% of Americans, and if you are one of them, Indica strains are the best option. Bubba Kush is a superstar of Indica strains and is famous for its tranquilizing effects that can take some weight off your shoulders. So Bubba Kush is the perfect choice if you are ready for relaxation from head to toe. Plus, it’s delicious, combining earthy and nutty tastes with sweet flavors of chocolate and coffee. The Bubba Kush THC level averages 14%, so it’s an excellent strain for newcomers.

Wedding Cake (Indica)

Do you have a sweet tooth? Then you must love the delightful taste of the Wedding Cake – not an actual one, but an Indica dominant cannabis strain. Its flavor combines earthy, nutty, sweet, sour, and vanilla tastes. It smells like a vanilla cake frosting, so without question, it’s one of the best strains for a pleasant smoking experience during the holidays. As an Indica-dominant strain, Wedding Cake provides more relaxing effects, and it is an excellent choice if stress is stealing your holiday joy. Wedding Cake isn’t a piece of cake for newcomers with its high THC amount (up to 27%), so be mindful about how much you consume and careful not to go overboard.

Strawberry Cough (Sativa)

When searching for energizing and uplifting effects – Strawberry Cough is amongst the best strains to choose. It’s a great choice when you plan to spend your NYE night out partying, as it will provide you with an energy boost and motivation to enjoy every moment of your celebration and a beautiful smile on your face. It’s a potent cannabis strain with a 19% THC amount. In addition, Strawberry Cough provides a tasteful consumption with its fruitful fresh sweet strawberry taste and aroma.

Blue Dream (Hybrid)

Hybrids like Blue Dream are a great choice for an NYE celebration when searching for more balanced outcomes. It’s a Sativa-dominant strain, and although it’s more uplifting, it also provides soothing effects derived from its parent strain Blueberry, so you can feel energized throughout the night while also feeling relaxed. Blue Dream combines fruitful, sweet, and fresh tastes and provides a pleasurable smoking experience. It has 18% THC, which is great for experienced and novice cannabis smokers.

Gelato (Hybrid)

When searching for a sweet, delightful, and relaxing cannabis strain, Gelato is one of the greatest picks. As the name suggests, it’s delicious in flavor, like its namesake,  mouthwatering Italian gelato. In terms of its effects, as an Indica-dominant strain, it provides soothing effects, so it’s a great strain to smoke to loosen up if stress is getting on your way to enjoying the celebration. Gelato averages 17% THC amount, making it potent and suitable for all kinds of consumers, including newcomers.

How to read the HHC COA

Have you tried HHC yet? If not, you might have many questions before trying the new cannabinoid, including whether it’s safe to consume.

In short, HHC products, like other hemp-derived products on the market, are safe to consume, but only when they come from reliable sources and reputable brands. Like other cannabinoid products, third-party lab testing is crucial in determining HHC products’ quality.

Manufacturers make HHC using heavy metals in the process, which are then removed. However, low-grade products might still include these even in the final product and harm your health. That’s why it’s crucial to buy HHC products and HHC vapes from reputable retailers that provide heavy metal tests and certificates of analysis to customers.

What is a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?

Before premium brands make their hemp-derived products available for sale, they test each batch of their products at independent laboratories. A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a document from an independent laboratory that demonstrates the amount of each cannabinoid in the product and shows whether a product is contaminated or includes harmful ingredients

Usually, hemp retailers test their products at different independent laboratories, so one product type might be tested by one laboratory, another one by a completely different one.

Although all independent lab tests analyze hemp-derived products for the same factors, such as cannabinoid profile and possible contaminants, these reports might look quite different and sometimes confuse consumers.

Knowing how to read a COA is essential to confirm the potency and purity of a product you buy. Unfortunately, the Hemp-derived market is pretty unregulated; a study in 2017 found that 70% of CBD product labels provided false information about the number of cannabinoids and other ingredients in the bottle. As a result, the only way to know you are investing in a high-quality, safe, and effective product is to see a certificate of analysis of a product that should be available on a brand’s website. Knowing that many consumers have trouble reading a COA, we’ve created this guide to help you better understand laboratory test results and used our COA for the HHC vape cartridge as an example.

How to Read HHC Certificate of Analysis

The Header of the COA

All HHC certificate of analysis has a header and a footer. In the example below, you see the independent laboratory’s name at the left and the company’s name on the right side, which ordered the test.

A batch number on the left is the lot number manufacturers assign to products to identify them quickly. Compare your product’s batch number on the bottle to the batch number on the COA to ensure you’re reading a correct certificate of analysis relevant to your product.

At the top, on the right hand, you can also see the date when the laboratory received the sample and when it completed testing.

The right column under the summary lists all the tested components of the product, including cannabinoids, heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, and other contaminants.

The Cannabinoid Section

The cannabinoid section indicates cannabinoids that are present in a product. It can help you determine whether a product is full-spectrum or broad-spectrum and what other cannabinoids are in the bottle except for HHC.

HPLC PDA stands for high-performance liquid chromatography Photodiode-Array Detection (PDA). It is an analytical technique used to identify components in a product, in this case, cannabinoids in an HHC vape cart.

The left column lists all cannabinoids used in the test. Limit of Detection (LOD) and Limit of Quantitation (LOQ) describe the smallest concentration of cannabinoids. The result section in percentages and mg/g indicates the amount of each cannabinoid. ND means non-detectable.

Heavy Metals Report

The section indicates whether any of the following heavy metals – arsenic, cadmium, lead, or mercury are present in the product and their amounts. The result shows the amount of each. In this case, there are no heavy metals in the HHC vape cart. ND stands for non-detectable.

Many foreign farms use pesticides in the growing process of hemp, which contaminates the product. Pesticides are harmful to humans. The research shows they can cause numerous diseases, including cancer. Therefore, knowing whether your HHC products are free from pesticides is essential to understand if it’s safe to consume. In this case, the product is free from pesticides with a non-detectable amount of each listed on the left and right columns.

All plants have microbes and bacteria, and hemp is no exception. Although not all are, some can be detrimental to your health, like salmonella, yeast, and mold. Usually, the extraction and production processes of hemp-derived products destroy these bacterias. Still, sometimes there’s a chance of these surviving through the process, so it’s crucial to assure your product is free of harmful microbes. The Microbials section in COA shows whether harmful bacteria and microbes are present in the product.

The Mycotoxins Section

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds. These are secondary metabolites produced by microfungi that are detrimental and possibly fatal in humans and animals. The mycotoxin section shows if there are any present in the product. Non-detectable amounts indicate there are no mycotoxins present in the HHC vape cart.

Residual Solvents

Some production methods like solvent extraction use harsh solvents, leaving a toxic residue in the final product. The residual solvents section in COA indicates whether unwanted substances from solvents are present in the products and in what amounts.

Terpenes Profile

Terpenes are aromatic compounds giving each hemp strain its unique aromas and flavors. The famous theory Entourage Effect also plays synergistically with cannabinoids to produce effects. Thus, you might wonder if there’re any terpenes in your product. ND means there’re non-detectable amounts of terpene, while LOQ means there are the lowest concentrations.

CBD for pets.

Independence day is a patriotic day full of good food, fun in the sun, and dazzling firework displays. Because we are lucky enough for the 4th of July to land on a Saturday this year, the festivities are likely to last all weekend. This is great for most of us but a little nerve-racking for pets. After all, you don’t want to spend the entire holiday consoling your shaky, scared sidekick when you could be enjoying the festivities together! However, if you have a pet that is sensitive to loud noises and the incessant sound of fireworks has them on edge, we have a few tips to help — including CBD for pets.

Fireworks and Dogs: A Shaky Combination

For most of us, when fireworks light up the sky in colorful twinkles and bursts, it feels simply magical. Few other experiences can compare to seeing such a grand display above us in celebration of our nation. But, unfortunately, dogs don’t experience the same enjoyment as we do for a few key reasons:

1. Some dogs feel threatened when they hear fireworks.

Dogs instinctively want to protect their owners, their homes, and themselves from all threats. The noise coming from outside, echoing into the home, can make dogs feel anxious, on guard, and defensive as they attempt to understand the perceived threat.

2. The loud sounds are bothersome to some dogs.

Because dogs’ hearing is more acute than humans’, they hear sounds more profoundly, making the loud booming sound of fireworks more alarming. Also, the whistling sound can resemble a dog whistle for some dogs, perking their ears up and making them feel on edge.

3. Some dogs dislike the unpredictability of fireworks.

When we celebrate Independence Day, we anticipate the sound of fireworks in the distance, and we don’t feel alarmed. However, dogs see it as an average day that loud, unpredictable noises have suddenly bombarded. This is unnerving for them, and it can feel very scary.

If your dog seems to dislike fireworks and it triggers a sense of fear or nervousness, you may observe the following behaviors from your four-legged pal:

  • Shaking
  • Excessive panting
  • Excessive barking
  • Pacing around the house looking out the windows
  • Crying/whining
  • Hiding in a small space

Tips to Keep Fido Calm on the 4th of July

Your furry sidekick is your best pal and an important part of your family. So when they feel stressed out, you want to do everything you can to help them. You might think that nothing can be done to help your dog during the loud Fourth of July festivities, but that’s not true! You can take a few steps to reduce your pup’s tension and set them up for a more relaxed evening. Try one (or all) of these tips to help console your dog this holiday weekend:

  • Try a comforting “thunder shirt” or other wraps for your dog. The constant light pressure feels comforting to many dogs, and it is a known remedy for dogs who dislike thunderstorms for similar reasons. However, remember not to make it too tight, or your dog will feel confined and uncomfortable. The idea is to have your dog feel safe like they would if they were being hugged or under a protective blanket.
  • Do your best to keep your dog inside during the festivities. Unless it seems to be a potty emergency, keeping your dog indoors helps reduce the volume of the sounds and prevents your pup from running away to hide or chase the sounds. Inside is the safest place for dogs during fireworks displays.
  • Make sure there is a comfortable “safe space” inside for your dog to retreat to. Some dogs feel at ease when they are inside of their crate or kennel. Others prefer a certain spot in the house. Accommodate your dog’s preferences and make sure they can tuck away from the action whenever they want. Tip: If you can’t find your dog’s hiding place during fireworks, check the bathroom. Many dogs like to slip between the toilet and bathtub where it feels safe and cool.
  • Set your dog up for success. You can put a dab of lavender essential oil on your dog’s collar to promote a sense of calmness through their acute sense of smell.

CBD for Pets – Is It Safe?

Many of you know and love CBD for the way it improves your own routine, but you may not realize it can benefit your pets, too! Pets experience similar physical and emotional discomforts as humans, and CBD helps reduce them in an all-natural way. But wait. Before you start sharing your personal CBD products with your sidekick, there are a few things you should know.

While the active ingredient – hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) – is the same, products made for humans have different supplemental ingredients and dosage recommendations than pet-specific products. CBD made for pets is carefully produced to include flavors your pets will love, and dosage amounts to cater to their average size/weight.

At The Hemp Doctor, America’s Premier Hemp & CBD Dispensary, we offer multiple CBD products for pets to get their tails wagging, including:

All of our pet products are 100% THC-free and completely safe for your pets to consume.
