Popular Marijuana Measuring Slang

As recreational marijuana is now legal in many states across the United States, some marijuana measuring slang isn’t as popular as it once was. This is because reputable marijuana dispensaries use legitimate measuring terms to explain what they’re selling. However, if you happen to see people purchasing weed, you might hear them use some of the following terms to explain what they’re looking for:

  • Dime Bag – The smallest amount of marijuana available. Typically, a dime bag represents a half-gram of marijuana or approximately $10 worth
  • Dub Sack – One gram of marijuana, or roughly $20 worth
  • G – G can be used interchangeably with Dub Sack. Someone requesting a ‘G’ will typically receive one gram of marijuana
  • Eighth – An eighth of marijuana is 3.5 grams or 1/8-ounce
  • Slice – Slice can be used interchangeably with eighth and describes 3.5 grams or 1/8-ounce of weed
  • Quarter – A quarter of marijuana is seven grams or ¼-ounce
  • Half – If someone requests a ‘half’ of weed, they’re asking for half an ounce or 14 grams
  • Zip – A zip describes one ounce of marijuana or 28 grams
  • OZ – OZ, pronounced ‘oh-zee’ can be used interchangeably with zip and represents one ounce or 28 grams of weed

If you were to walk into an established dispensary, you would be more likely to see the following measurements offered:

The Term In Ounces In Grams
Eighth 8 ounces 3.5 grams
Quarter 1/4 ounce 7 grams
Half ½ ounce 14 grams
Ounce 1 ounce 28 grams
